Age-Friendly Regina began working for you in 2018. That work led to Regina being recognized as an Age-Friendly community in 2022, but that was not the end. There is still much work to do! An age-friendly community includes people of all ages, abilities, and cultures.

Q: WHERE CAN I FIND A PRINTED VERSION OF THE GUIDES?
A: There are copies of the English guides in all of the public libraries. You may also find them in some community recreation centres and community organizations. You can also print the PDF versions of the guides from this website!
Q: CAN I PRINT THE GUIDES MYSELF?
A: Absolutely! All of the PDF versions of the guides are printable.
Q: HOW DID AGE-FRIENDLY START?
A: The World Health Organization started the Age-Friendly movement in 2006. There are Age-Friendly communities in 51 countries around the world.
Within Canada, most provincial and territorial governments adopted and launched the initiative. In Saskatchewan, it was launched by the Saskatchewan Seniors Mechanism (SSM).
Q: WHO IS HELPING COMMUNITIES BECOME AGE-FRIENDLY IN SASKATCHEWAN?
A: Saskatchewan Seniors Mechanism’s program, Age-Friendly Saskatchewan, helps age-friendly communities in the province. They explain Age-Friendly, help communities get started, and support them in their work. Learn more at agefriendlysk.ca
Fun fact: In Saskatchewan, 19 communities are working to be age-friendly. That means 50% of the population lives in an Age-Friendly community!
Q: WHEN DID AGE-FRIENDLY REGINA START?
A: A committee was created in 2018 and Age-Friendly Regina began its work!
Q: HOW IS AGE-FRIENDLY REGINA FUNDED?
A: Age-Friendly-Regina does not receive any core funding. We are volunteers and, with the City of Regina, Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA), University of Regina Centre on Aging and Health, and other community organizations, We work together to make Regina more age-friendly.
We received a Facilitating Independence Grant in 2024. The grant money was used to build this website and to translate the Guides into the most common languages of newcomers to Regina.

A: Age-Friendly Regina is a group of volunteers, there are no fees.

A: We appreciate all donations. Unfortunately, Age-Friendly Regina is not a registered charity so we cannot give tax-deductible receipts.

A: Age-Friendly Regina works closely with the City of Regina, but is not part of the City of Regina.
