About Globe Walk

Globe Walk is a fun, interactive, and creative way to stay motivated to be physically active this winter!

Frequently Asked Questions

Where did Globe Walk start?

Globe Walk is an initiative of the Saskatoon Council on Aging (SCOA). Regina has been participating for a number of years now.

How does it work?

Everyone who registers through us will become part of the Age-Friendly Regina Team. We will start a separate and private Facebook group for everyone to stay connected.

You keep track of your physical activity – walking, swimming, cross country skiing, yoga, weights, even vacuuming! A handy calculation sheet helps to figure out your “kilometres” based on activity and length of time. Whether it’s a class or something you do on your own or with a friend, it all counts and helps the team reach their goal!

We will share information, collect “kilometres” each month and submit them to SCOA, and everyone in the group will help to motivate each other to stay active this winter.

What do you mean, “the goal”?

Globe Walk comes with a destination! As teams from Regina and Saskatoon submit their “kilometres,” we travel – this year we are exploring Canada’s coasts! Globe Walk is set up to include some ongoing learning as well so along the way, we will learn tidbits about the places we are “visiting.” Of course, the goal is to visit all of our beautiful country’s coasts!

When do we start?

Globe Walk technically starts January 1, but please try to register by January 9. Later than that? Please still join us!

How do I register?

You can either send Age-Friendly Regina a message via Messenger or email us at agefriendlyregina@gmail.com and let us know you are interested!

Note: If you register through email, please make sure you “like” our Facebook page and be clear in your email what your name is on Facebook so we can find you. We will follow up with confirmation and more information.

Can my friend or family member register as well?

Yes!

What if I am going away this winter?

Not a problem. Enjoy the time away – if you are engaging in walks, hikes, pickleball or other activities – be sure to make note of them to include!

Do you have any other important information?

There will be a “wind up” event in April. All participants from Regina are invited – it’s an opportunity to connect in-person, learn a little something new, and try an activity. It’s a great way to say goodbye to winter and welcome spring!
