Happy Social Prescribing Day!
Update on Social Prescribing in Regina
March 19th is Social Prescribing Day, an annual celebration of the people, organizations, and communities who make social prescribing happen. It’s a great day to share some information about the journey of bringing Social Prescribing to Regina!
The Social Prescribing initiatives in Saskatchewan are truly a result of community collaboration. There has been a lot of excitement about an initiative being developed in Regina with its focus of empowering older adults 55+ to take control of their non-medical health and wellbeing. To bring this to fruition in Regina, we are thrilled to announce that:
- Regina Community Clinic has signed on to be the Anchoring Entity, a key role needed to move ahead. They will be managing the funding and ensuring our Community Connector gets paid – we wouldn’t be able to do this without them!
- A Steering Committee with people from a variety of backgrounds has been formed and has been busy moving things forward – we will introduce you to them soon!
- Plans are being made to post the job opportunity in the near future, and one lucky applicant will get to be Regina’s first Social Prescribing Community Connector!! – we will share more about the job posting here and on our Facebook page soon.

Are you interested in getting involved?
We are looking to find one or two community members who are 55+ without a professional background in health to participate on the Steering Committee, bring their perspective, and help make the Social Prescribing initiative a success in Regina. For more information about this or other ways of getting involved, please see our Social Prescribing Volunteer Opportunity or email agefriendlyregina@gmail.com.
